Maine State Law Helps out Non-residents and Maine Marine Businesses
Maine’s Governor recently signed into state law a reduction in the amount of tax non-residents will be liable to pay on boats purchased in Maine. According to the Maine Marine Trades Association, the new law that goes into effect August 1st , will reduce the amount of tax that non-residents will who keep their boats in Maine will be liable for from 5% to 2%. Marine industry businesses are very pleased with the change and so will the non-residents who purchase a boat after the law takes affect. As this law will benefit both parties, will any states follow?
