It was another great year at the Newport Boat Show. The 9.0 got lots of attention from adults and children alike. As soon as children spotted the multiple pod seats they immediately asked their parents if they could go aboard. As in past years the questions and conversations really showed how the knowledge base regarding RIBs has grown. There were fewer questions about what a RIB is and more conversations comparing features of various models and helping customers determine which RIB best fits their needs.
The weather was also the best we’ve had in years. Four days straight of sun and warm temperatures combined with attendees’ enthusiasm about RIBs made for a successful show. We are looking forward to next year.

As I mentioned in an earlier posting I am a fan of the wireless lanyard safety device, Autotether. This device connects directly to your engine kill switch and protects up to 3 passengers onboard (it works for pets as well). If the operator falls overboard, the engine will shut off and if a passenger were to fall overboard, the alarm will sound, alerting fellow passengers and the operator.

Boat and yacht insurance provider Travelers, recently announced that they are giving boaters a discount on premiums for using Autotether. Travelers stated that they expect offering this discount will encourage boaters to use wireless emergency stop lanyards and make it safer for everyone on the water.

Travelers said that they are currently reviewing safety devices by other manufacturers as well, with the hope that they can offer discounts for those products in the future

This is yet another reason to invest in a safety product such as Autotether. Not only does it protect the operator and passengers, but now may offer a savings as well.
