Proposed Moratorium on Boat Sales Tax in Wisconsin

I read an interesting article in one of our marine trade publications on a proposed bill in Wisconsin that would place a year-long moratorium on state sales tax for motorboat, outboard motors and trailer purchases up to $30,000. The bill was proposed by State Rep. John Townsend, R- Fond du Lac, who said that he will be looking for co-sponsors. The author points out that the marine industry has a fairly large presence in Wisconsin and this bill will help to both preserve jobs and allow residents to take advantage of the numerous lakes that the state has to offer. Due to the timing of the bill, the author notes that if passed it will likely impact the next boating season.
